                  Bargaining Report

Bargaining continued on October 11,2006 . We worked on NCLB and Improvement Schools issues and

the District agreed to brief us on where we stand concerning  the various compliance issues and timelines involved.  We also discussed the total compensation package and new adjustments to the base revenue limit from the state. The on-going  problems concerning substitutes  were also on our agenda.  Mr. Carreon  assures us that copies of the new contract will  be available soon.

     Leadership Conference

The CTA Leadership Conference was held in Reno, Nevada  October 6-8.

·       Teresa Bradley; MUTA  Board Secretary

I really enjoyed attending the Leadership Conference in Reno.  I attended “Executive Board Training”, “Involvement for All”, “State Budget—What’s in it for Education?”, “Managing Change” and the “Feather River Service Center Council “ sessions.

In the Executive Board Training, I learned several things that will make my job as Board Secretary easier.  At the State Budget session, I learned how to figure our what it would cost to increase the salary schedule by 1% and that the regular P-2 average daily attendance using form A (unaudited acturals) is set in April.

“Involvement for All” focused on  the need to reach out to minority members who are underrepresented in most locals.  When active association members take an interest in minority teachers and invite them to participate, they often do. Our locals thrive when all members are encouraged to use their strengths.

I would encourage all  those who are interested in taking a more active part in MUTA to attend one of the following conferences or consider attending next year’s Leadership Conference:

Jan. 12, 2007  The Rural Issues Conference        January 18, 2007    FRSC dinner

Jan. 19,2007  Good Teaching Conference
